| Do You Talk to God? |
|
Several years ago now, I read a book by Jesses Duplantis called Wanting a God You Can Talk to. This book was eye-opening for me as it shared how Jesse talks to God. His conversations are more like friends talk to each other. At first, this was a difficult concept to grasp. I mean, we are talking about Almighty God here, the Ancient of Days, the King of Kings. This is not something that can be taken lightly. But Jesse shared how he talked with and listened to God, and it started to make sense. He would share with God things from his perspective and experience with his personality. If you've ever heard Jesse than you know what I mean by his personality. He's a joyful, exuberant man who can really make you laugh. As I continued to read, it began to really sink in. If you can't share yourself fully with God, who can you? Creator Think about it, God made you. Who knows you better than He does? He knows your thoughts and actions even before you think them and do them. He has seen your life unfold even before you were born. This is a God who sees the end from the beginning. Doesn't it make sense to be completely open and honest with Him? Friend For me, fellowshipping with God brings me closer to Him. It creates a desire within me to get to know Him better. I want to understand who He is, what He likes, what He doesn't. I want to know what He thinks about me, what He wants for me. I want to be able to fully trust God and for Him to be able to fully trust me. When you read the Bible today, take a look at the Psalms. Notice how David talks to God. This is how Jesse talks to God. Yes, it's respectful, but it comes from a place of complete honesty. Psalm 13 1 How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death; 4 my enemy will say, "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.Do a search on Biblegateway.net for "how long" and see what I mean about David's complete openness with God. Are you being yourself when you talk to God?
