How to Receive The Blessing

What is The Blessing?

To keep fresh in your minds what The Blessing is, consider Genesis 27:28,29 when Isaac passed The Blessing that God gave to his father, Abraham, down to Jacob.

28 "May God give you of heaven's dew
       and of earth's richness—
an abundance of grain and new wine.

 29 May nations serve you
and peoples bow down to you.
       Be lord over your brothers,
and may the sons of your mother bow down to you.
May those who curse you be cursed
and those who bless you be blessed."

Do you see how Jacob was to experience the earth's richness and abundance. Later in Jacob's story, you will see how he had acquired so much that he was able to separate into two groups when he was coming upon his brother Esau. Also, notice how people who blessed Jacob would also be blessed.

Redeemed

We know from Galatians 3:13,14,29 that Christ redeemed us from The Curse of the Law (the curse is sin, sickness, and poverty). Not only that, the reason he redeemed us is that The Blessing given to Abraham would be available to the Gentiles as well:

13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."

14He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

If Christians have been made heirs, why aren't more Christians Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise? Notice that this passage says that The Blessing might come to us. So, how might it come? By FAITH - by believing the promise and supporting that belief through corresponding action (see James 2:14-26 to gain perspective on corresponding actions). It ought to make you want to shout and praise The LORD when you read that we are both REDEEMED from the Curse of The Law AND we are Abraham's seed and HEIRS. So, that pronouncement that Isaac made to Jacob is also available to Christians as well.

How to Act According to Your Faith

Now that you know that The Blessing is available to you, it's time to understand how to connect to the promise. One very clear passage on connecting to the Blessing is in Malachi 3.

8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
"But you ask, 'How do we rob you?'
"In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. 12 "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD Almighty.

Others will see how blessed you are when you connect to God through tithes and offerings. Keep in mind that tithe means tenth. So, to establish the tithing covenant with God, you must give God a tenth of your income to the church where you get fed the Word. This is the way to enter into a Covenant relationship with God.
