Is Holiness Holding You Back?

for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." - 1 Peter 1:16

Are you living a holy life? If not, this disobedience may be holding you back from all that God has for you. You may think that it is not possible to be holy. If that is the case, why would God command us to be holy? You are right that you are unable to become holy by your own power. However, it is possible to reach the point in your life where you no longer sin, if you live by the Spirit.

I can do everything through him who gives me strength. - Philippians 4:13

In fact, we are commanded to put to death the misdeeds of the body.

12Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. - Romans 8:12-14

If you have sin in any area of your life, it is time to remove it. Here's how you do it (if you are not yet born again, click on the "salvation" tab at the top of this page). First, confess your sin, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9"

Next, make a decision to live righteously. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. - Hebrews 12:11

Now, confess a new way of living. A good passage for this is the following:

 23 Above all else, guard your heart,
       for it is the wellspring of life.

 24 Put away perversity from your mouth;
       keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead,
       fix your gaze directly before you.

 26 Make level paths for your feet
       and take only ways that are firm.

 27 Do not swerve to the right or the left;
       keep your foot from evil.

       Proverbs 4:23-27

Memorize this passage and confess it daily (more than once a day is even better). This will develop confidence in the power of the Word. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. - Joshua 1:8

Rest assured that living a holy life will reap benefits, For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. - 1 Timothy 4:8

Don't be deceived, you can live a righteous life now. It may not be easy, but it can be done. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13
